Welcome Home,
On behalf of First Methodist Church Groesbeck, thank you for visiting our website. We strive to glorify God our Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit in everything that we do.
I know that visiting any new church typically begins with a visit to Facebook pages, Youtube Channels, and Websites. If you are new to First Methodist, you are likely taking a big step in discerning if we are the people God is calling you to live life together with. I pray that God will honor this discernment process and sanctify you as you learn to trust Him more.
One of our most important values is Tradition. First Methodist Church is 149 years old, having been born in 1874, three years after the establishment of the Groesbeck Circuit of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. You can see our first parsonage (pastor's house) at the Old Fort Parker recreation just north of Groesbeck (the Mordecai Yell House). In 1939 the old church building was torn down and the current structure built. We are blessed to have a historical landmark of a church building which has changed little in almost 100 years. We are also blessed to have a thorough history of our church provided by Mrs. Myrna Cantrell which covers the church from its establishment to 1939.
Our Second value is Worship. Currently, we have approximately 100 people in worship on most Sundays. We have two adult Sunday School classes that meet, one in my office and the other in our fellowship hall. Both are excellent opportunities to grow in your faith and love of Jesus Christ. Children's Sunday School and Ministry happens upstairs in our Children's Ministry Hall.
Our third value is Family. Our church is foremost a part of the family of believers who together make up the body of Jesus Christ on earth. We are a part of the Global Methodist Church, a branch of the Wesleyan movement begun by John and Charles Wesley in the 1700's. We play nicely together, we hold one another accountable in love, and we find joy in being together. You will often have a hard time coming in to worship and escaping unnoticed, because we love to talk and spend time together.
I hope you will join us this Sunday as we continue worshipping the same God that the pioneers of Groesbeck back in 1871 began worshipping together. If I can ever help you or provide more information, please reach out.
In Christ,
Pastor Ben
